1- Threading on a Lathe -
Threading on a lathe is accomplished with a single point tool that has the exact shape of the thread you are going to produce. The types and sizes of threads vary significantly and will be covered by a seperate topic in the VMS. However we will stay with just one type of thread for this topic, the UNC thread aka the 60 degree SAE thread.

This video demonstrates the timing of the rotation of the spindle to the cutting tool demonstrated with the pencil tip and a chalk line.

The timing of the spindle turns in relatioship to the carriage movement. This is possible by changing gear levers like those shown below on a Southe Bend lathe.
