2-Movements of the Vertical Mill Head - Head Rotation Longitudinal

There may be a time when it will be necessary to tilt the angle of the head clockwise or counterclockwise as viewed from the front of the mill. Look at the picture of a part to the left. It has an angled surface and if it was necessary to machine along that surface with the side of an end mill the head of the milling machine would have to be tilted counterclockwise.

To rotate the mill head clockwise or counterclockwise as viewed from the front, loosen the four bolts as shown, crank the adjusting bolt, take note of the protractor reading, retighten the four bolts as shown.

Do not trust the protractor reading to be accurate to more than two degrees. If the precision of the angle needed is less than two degrees then use other means such as an adjustable angle plate, sine bar, or something else of high precision to align the quill or spindle with the machine table.
